Why Arabic Interpreting Is Its Own Category in the UK

Arabic is not one language for the purposes of UK institutional interpreting. Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the working register for legal documents, sworn statements and formal court proceedings, but conversational Arabic splits into regional variants that are not fully mutually intelligible. Egyptian carries across media and is often the safest common register in mixed-nationality settings. Maghreb (Moroccan Darija, Algerian, Tunisian, Libyan) requires a specialist because comprehension against Levantine falls off sharply. Iraqi and Sudanese colloquial are booked on the specific dialect.

Commercial work sits at the other end of the register and needs a different interpreter profile again. We can put an NDA in place on request.

Arabic Interpreter and Arabic Translation Together

Interpreting and document translation are separate services with different production paths, but the same booking can carry both. The interpreter attends a solicitor consultation about a Syrian marriage contract, a Sudanese police clearance certificate, a Yemeni family record book, an Iraqi identity document, an Egyptian academic transcript, or a Home Office decision letter that needs to be read back into Arabic before instructions are given. The document is then translated as a certified translation.

See Arabic document translation for the paperwork side of an Arabic file. Same rate card in sterling, invoiced together on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you book an Arabic interpreter in the UK?

Urgent requests are confirmed as soon as an interpreter is free, subject to availability.

How much does an Arabic interpreter cost in the UK?

Remote (phone or video) Arabic interpreting starts at £49.99 per 30 minutes. On-site business or medical starts at £149.99 per hour. Court and legal work and police station attendance under PACE Code C are quote only. Final price confirmed before booking, based on language, location, date, duration and availability. Minimum booking applies, and travel outside the city is quoted separately. All rates fixed in writing before the assignment.

Which Arabic variants do you cover (MSA, Levant, Gulf, Egyptian, Maghreb)?

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the working register for legal documents, sworn statements and formal court proceedings; regional variants are assigned per setting. Levantine (Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian), Gulf (Emirati, Saudi, Qatari, Kuwaiti) and other variants are available on request, subject to availability. Egyptian is widely understood via media and often the safest common register in mixed-nationality settings. Maghreb (Moroccan Darija, Algerian, Tunisian, Libyan) requires a specialist because comprehension against Levantine falls off. Iraqi and Sudanese colloquial are booked on the specific dialect where needed.

Can the same Arabic interpreter cover consultation and hearing?

Yes, and this is the strongly recommended pattern for any contested matter. Booking the same Arabic interpreter for the private solicitor consultation and the later court or tribunal hearing removes vocabulary drift between what the client said in private and what is placed on the record under oath. Also more efficient: the interpreter already knows the file, the variant is already matched, and the terminology is locked by the time the hearing arrives.

Do you also handle Arabic document translation?

Yes. See our Arabic translation page for certified Arabic document translation (birth certificates, marriage contracts including sharia marriage documents, family record books, police clearance certificates, diplomas, medical records and legal documents). Same rate card in sterling, invoiced together if you need both an interpreter and translated documents on one matter.
