Why the UK Price Is What It Is
The UK does not maintain a state ‘sworn translator’ register the way France (‘traducteur assermenté’), Spain (TIJ MAEC), or Poland (‘tłumacz przysięgły’) do. The UK relies on UKVI Immigration Rules Para 39B, which sets requirements for any translation submitted to the Home Office:
Confirmation the translation is an accurate translation of the original document.
The date of the translation.
The translator’s full name and signature.
The translator’s contact details.
No notary. No apostille. No sworn stamp. UKVI asks for a certified translation that carries these four elements. Our £39.99/page rate covers a translation issued with a signed statement of accuracy.
Certified covers most UK uses. If an authority asks you for a sworn translation, choose Sworn: we translate and certify as usual, and the translator’s declaration of accuracy is then sworn before a solicitor or Commissioner for Oaths. Sworn is £99.99 per page and is delivered within 48 hours for 1 to 3 pages, 60 hours for 4 to 6 pages, and 72 hours for 7 pages or more.
What Determines the Price
Five variables set the price of a certified translation. Four are published on this page. The fifth (turnaround) is included in the £39.99/page rate for standard turnaround windows.
Page count. Counted from the pages of your document; blank pages are free. A one-page UK birth certificate is one page. A three-page court judgment is three pages.
Handwriting. Handwritten pages take longer to transcribe accurately and add £9.99/page. This includes older Polish, Ukrainian, and Romanian civil-registry certificates where records were filled by hand.
Delivery format. Digital PDF certification included. A physical hard copy posted to a UK address adds £19.99 flat for the whole order, not per document.
Legalisation chain. Translation only, or more, depends on the receiving authority. If your document needs an apostille, get it apostilled first and we translate it, including the apostille.
Turnaround. 24 hours for 1 to 3 pages, 36 hours for 4 to 6 pages, 48 hours for 7 to 10 pages, all at the £39.99/page rate. A prioritised tier is available at £59.99 per page, with a 12-hour delivery aim, subject to translator availability. Sworn translations add 24 hours to each band (48, 60 and 72 hours), and priority on a sworn translation is quoted individually. Documents over 10 pages are quoted individually with an agreed timeline.
Visa & Immigration Documents at £39.99/page
Every UKVI visa route that requires non-English documents can be handled at the standard rate. There is no visa surcharge, no ‘UKVI premium’, and no ‘immigration handling fee’. Documents commonly needed for UK immigration applications:
Spouse and partner visa: foreign marriage certificate, birth certificates for dependants, translated financial evidence where a bank statement is not in English.
Skilled Worker visa: foreign degree certificates, transcripts, professional qualifications, and reference letters not in English.
Student visa: foreign transcripts, diploma certificates, English-language exemption evidence where the qualification is not in English.
ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain): Life in the UK evidence, absences documentation, foreign travel documents.
British citizenship: birth certificates for referees not documented in English, foreign passport translations for evidence bundles.
Family visa: foreign birth certificates for children, adoption papers, guardianship orders.
Asylum and protection: country evidence, identity documents, medical evidence, court and police documents.
All at £39.99/page. All with a signed statement of accuracy in the Para 39B format.
How to Order (Our Process)
Four steps from upload to certified translation delivered.
Upload or WhatsApp
Send a scan or photo of the document. Our SmartQuote reads the source language, page count, and handwriting, then returns a fixed price in seconds. Or WhatsApp the file for a human-checked quote.
Confirm and Pay
The quote shows page count, add-ons, and delivery format. Pay by card at checkout. Your order gets an order reference that tracks it end-to-end.
We Translate and Certify
A translator produces the translation, checking names, dates, numbers, addresses, and legal terminology against the source. The statement of accuracy is attached with translator name, signature, contact details, and date.
Delivery
Certified PDF by email within 24 hours for 1-3 pages, 36 hours for 4-6 and 48 hours for 7-10. Hard copy posted by An Post from Ireland when ordered.
Honest Price Comparison
Our £39.99/page rate comes with a Para 39B format certification. What to look for when comparing quotes:
Per-document quotes without a page count. ‘£85 for a marriage certificate’ is fine if your certificate is one page. If it is a two-side long-form, the second page will be silently added. We always show the page count on the quote.
Automatic notarisation surcharges. UKVI does not require notarisation. If a provider adds a notary fee by default when you only need a UKVI-facing translation, ask why.
‘Same-day’ promises. Our bands are 24 hours for 1 to 3 pages, 36 hours for 4 to 6 and 48 hours for 7 to 10; Prioritise gives a 12-hour aim. Ask any provider for the band that matches your page count.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does certified translation cost in the UK?
£39.99 per translated page. A page is one page of your document, as you upload it. Handwritten pages add £9.99. A physical hard copy delivered by post adds £19.99 for the whole order. The translation is prepared to UKVI Para 39B requirements. If an authority asks for a sworn translation (the translator's declaration sworn before a solicitor or Commissioner for Oaths), Sworn is £99.99 per page, with the same add-ons.
Why per page, not per document?
UK documents vary in size from a one-side birth certificate to a 15-page decree absolute file. Per-page pricing means a single certificate costs £39.99 and a five-page court order costs £199.95. Per-document pricing either overcharges short jobs or undercharges long ones.
How is a page counted?
A page is one page of your document, as you upload it. A one-page UK marriage certificate is one page. A three-page Polish court judgment is three pages. The page count is shown on the quote before you pay.
What about urgent turnaround?
Standard UK turnaround is 24 hours for 1 to 3 pages, 36 hours for 4 to 6 pages, 48 hours for 7 to 10 pages, all at £39.99 per page. A prioritised tier is available at £59.99 per page, with a 12-hour delivery aim, subject to translator availability. Sworn translations take 24 hours longer than each band, and priority on a sworn translation is quoted individually. Documents over 10 pages are quoted individually. For genuinely time-critical visa deadlines message us on WhatsApp with the deadline attached.
Is there a minimum charge?
The minimum is one page at £39.99. No order fee, no handling fee, no notarisation surcharge on a certified translation. Sworn is a separate product you choose, at £99.99 per page, never a fee added at checkout. A one-page document costs one page.
Do you charge extra for UKVI, spouse visa, or ILR documents?
No. The £39.99/page rate applies to every document type — birth certificates, marriage certificates, criminal record certificates, diplomas, medical records, bank statements, employment letters, and court documents. The certification format is prepared to UKVI Para 39B requirements in every case: signed Statement of Accuracy, translator name, contact details, and date.
What if the receiving authority asks for notarisation or an apostille?
UKVI does not require notarisation of certified translations — Para 39B is satisfied by the Statement of Accuracy alone. Some non-UKVI receiving bodies (universities abroad, foreign consulates, some employers overseas) do ask for notarisation or an apostille on the translation. We do not provide or arrange apostilles; in the UK they are issued by the FCDO Legalisation Office. If your document needs an apostille, get it apostilled first and we translate it, including the apostille.
How is B2B pricing different?
For B2B accounts we invoice with round-number pricing. B2C orders are paid by card at checkout at the £39.99/page listed rate. Translation quality, turnaround, and UKVI-compliant certification are identical.
